Our (historical) search for Nazi eagles continues. While we thoroughly covered the history of the german heraldic eagle, from its use as the Reichsadler in the early 900s up until today as the Bundesadler in our post “The Nazi Eagles of Berlin” – we will refrain from rehashing its history in this piece. We have currently documented at least 34 Nazi Eagles remaining in Berlin – but as we continue our travels through the villages and cities of Brandenburg, we have begun finding even more.

Rather than keeping them as a subsection of the Berlin article, we decided to create a dedicated article for the region of Brandenburg. Few cities in Germany, bar Berlin, Munich or Hamburg have more than two or three remaining eagles, making it easier to just sort them by (federal) state.

Disclaimer

If an address is not given for an Eagle, it is done so on purpose. If you do have a question regarding one of the publicly listed locations ask away. If you know of an Eagle that we’ve missed out on, feel free to leave a comment so we can continue to complete the list. It goes without saying that our interest in these Eagles/Symbols is purely historical, and in no way do we condone or support any fascist or racist ideology.

The Nazi Eagles of Brandenburg

Similar to our observation in the Nazi Eagles of Berlin article, where the majority of eagles that we found were in the western sector of the city, the majority of cities and towns in Brandenburg have seemingly been scrubbed clean of (most) symbols of the Third Reich – which isn’t too surprising to be honest. What we did notice was, that that many of the former Nazi military installations which the Soviet Red Army took over after 1945 – be it bunkers, military bases or airports, still had plenty of Nazi symbols, from Eagles up to elaborate swastika mosaics.

One would have thought, that especially the Soviets would be keen to remove these symbols, rather than live with them on a day to day basis. Not quite sure what the logic was there, but thanks to the Soviets (reluctance?), we can still find some examples throughout Brandenburg.

Nazi Eagles Map

We’ve created this map to help those of you who are interested in finding/looking at some of these Nazi Eagles for yourself. We decided to merge the Berlin and Brandenburg Eagles into the same map for the time being. Check out our article on the Nazi Eagles of Hamburg if youd like to see what eagles remain there.
